Role: Corporate Intern

Pay: This is an unpaid volunteer position except for lunch expenses of up to £4 per day plus travel expenses to and from Cleeve Court, Leatherhead of up to £10 a day

Duration: 2-3 months

Hours: Flexible, 2-3 days per week

The Corporate team is responsible for £1.4 million of the charities income this financial year, funding is sought through the corporate sector via charity of the year partnerships, cause related marketing, corporate one day challenges, events and office based fundraising. A corporate intern would support one of the Corporate Partnership Managers, assisting with promotional and profile-raising elements of corporate fundraising, conducting research into prospective funders and general support as needed.

Activities and Responsibilities

• Support on key corporate accounts, assisting in the planning and implementation of fundraising activities

• Recruitment of participants for events and activities

• Research into sector activity and potential new business leads

Your days could involve:

o Research

o Developing a list of potential companies to approach with a calendar of events and campaigns

o Cross referencing with a database of existing supporters and updating records

o Developing the corporate social media calendar

o Identifying newsworthy stories via the corporate team and upload them onto the social media calendar

o Requesting images and quotes from supporting companies

o Attending external meetings/events at supporting companies with the Corporate Partnerships Manager

o Record developments and ideas from the meeting

o Input with ideas and thoughts

o Networking with potential supporters, representing the charity and raising awareness

o Administrative tasks such as thanking, reporting and databasing.

You can expect to gain the following experience:

• Knowledge of the third sector

• Working in an office environment, using a variety of computer software

• Networking skills, enhancement of interpersonal skills through interaction with colleagues, supporters and potential supporters

• Attending formal meetings in the offices of a number of supporting companies, understanding how individual partnerships work and the relationship the charity has with them

• Training for relevant skills such as public speaking, giving presentations, CV writing and interview skills

• Introductions to other charities as a viable candidate for a starting role, if applicable

Person Specification

Applicants must have the following skills/experience:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Good IT skills – MS Office and preferably some database experience

• The ability to work accurately with attention to detail

• The confidence to speak to current and potential supporters on the phone (essential)

• Ability to undertake research

• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively and plan

• Energy and enthusiasm – a ‘can-do’ attitude

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

• The ability to work towards set objectives

• Proactive approach
