This fund has been set up for McKenzie
McKenzie was two years old when an ultrasound revealed that he had Stage Four Neuroblastoma. He was also diagnosed with Atypical HUS, a rare disease that destroys red blood cells and causes kidney failure in children. Our lives were turned upside down.
We met Dawn, our Family Support Worker, in the hospital playroom; Dawn asked us what we needed and I said we just need someone to play with our children and bring some fun back into our lives. Dawn came on board and did just that. When McKenzie was in hospital, she came over to play with the kids. Knowing they were in safe hands, I was able to breathe a bit better and have some time for myself.
McKenzie is now eight and will be five years cancer free in December. To celebrate this, and to give something back to Rainbow Trust, he wants to have a party with all money raised going to Rainbow Trust and the other children. We've been raising money for them for the past few years with cake sales and school events. They've done so much for us, we all want to give something back.
“One day when Dawn came over to visit us, she told John and I to go and have a meal, just us two, we never get to do that!”
We've raised £700 for Rainbow Trust so far
