There is just over a week to go now until the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon and we are getting very excited here at Rainbow Trust HQ!
Just like the 50 runners who are running for us, our preparation for marathon day began months ago. Nicola, our Sports & Challenges Manager, has been working very hard to ensure that our runners are ready and will have great support from us on the day. Our presence at this year’s event will be bigger, louder, and much more colourful than ever before!
The new Rainbow Trust running vest and “crazy hair” headband Nicola is wearing in the picture above is what our runners will be wearing on the day. Shouldn’t have any trouble spotting them in a crowd!
Nicola tells us: “We’re extremely grateful to have such a fantastic team of runners taking part and it’s been a pleasure to support them over the past few months. It’s always a brilliant event to be a part of so the excitement is mounting for us as well as for the runners. We can’t wait to cheer them all on!”
We will have two very large and loud cheer squads along the famous route, one on Tower Bridge, approximately mile 12.5, and the other at Limehouse, at approximately miles 14 and 22. Our staff and volunteers will be out in force to show their appreciation for our team, helping to them keep smiling and on track. We would love for more people to join us on the day so if you would like to enjoy the electric atmosphere with us, give Nicola a call on 01372 220022 and she will send you details.
The other great thing about running for Rainbow Trust, besides for knowing that you are making a huge difference to the families we support, is our fabulous post-race reception at the Golden Lion pub, just a short walk from the finish line (SW1Y 6QY). We are very lucky to have our reception at this super location. There is such a buzzing atmosphere after the race as we greet our runners and congratulate them back at the reception. We even lay on massages for them!
So far our team has raised nearly £50,000 which is a phenomenal amount that will help us to support even more families. A few runners in our team have experienced Rainbow Trust’s support first-hand and know just how important having support from a Family Support Worker is.
We look forward to seeing our runners whizz past us next week and enjoying a successful event. Good luck to everyone running.
