With the wonderfully welcoming team at Rainbow Trust, making the most of my three month PR Internship has been an absolute dream! Just like any experience, the most important things are to be confident and willing to ensure you get as much out of it as you possibly can.
Having now completed my three months, here are some top tips from me to you:
What do you want to achieve?
Have a think about what you would like to achieve from your internship and set some goals with your manager. I can assure you that they will be more than willing to help you with this! However long your internship lasts, you’ll have plenty of time to tick off some vital achievements that will not only boost your confidence but will also add some brilliant brownie-points to your CV too.
As my internship was in the PR department I wanted to develop my writing skills and begin a portfolio of work that I could showcase to potential employers. This worked a treat! My supportive team helped and encouraged me the whole way and I was delighted when I received coverage from lots of different publications.
Don’t doubt your role
As an intern you can sometimes feel that your role isn’t very important. But trust me, it really is! Rainbow Trust relies on volunteers, interns and office support, so these positions are vital to the smooth-running of the organisation.
Take on new tasks whenever you can
You can learn so much from simply saying “I’ll do it”. Whether it’s developing a skill, using a specific software or learning a new programme, this really is the best way to learn.
Ask for help
Simple. Always ask if you’re unsure - no question is too silly.
Finally, trust that you are doing a great job
Have faith in the work you are producing and know that you are an important part of the team. It’s only natural to make occasional mistakes when you’re new and just starting out, but if you work to the best of your ability then your work will flourish.
If you enjoy endless tea/coffee, yummy sweet treats and fun work lunches - not forgetting, working with a positive, motivated and fabulous team, then look no further than Rainbow Trust!
