Speaking today, Zillah Bingley, Chief Executive, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, said:
“Following the outcome of the General Election, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity welcomes the Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP to his new role.”
“We ask that the new government commits to increasing the amount of funding for children’s social palliative care, so that more families caring for a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness receive the help they desperately need.”
“Too many families are not yet receiving the support they need to cope with the practical and emotional challenges of caring for a seriously ill child: Families tell us that they need enhanced paid employment leave so that parents can balance work and caring responsibilities, as well as additional financial support to meet the rising cost of living, particularly as some families are disproportionately affected as they have to power life-saving medical equipment at home."
"Seriously ill children and their siblings would also benefit from increased support in schools to increase understanding of the impact of serious illness on their lives.”
“Rainbow Trust stands ready to work with the government on behalf of families with children facing life-threatening or terminal illnesses so that every family receives the care and support they need during their most challenging times."
