On Sunday 1 May, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity hosted a mouth-watering ‘Teas on the Green’ at Brockham Church Hall to celebrate the start of its Great Rainbow Bake Campaign and raise vital funds and awareness for families with a seriously ill child.
More than 100 people attended the event throughout the day, all of whom enjoyed the delicious rainbow bakes. With the generous support of the community and a team of dedicated volunteer bakers, the Great Rainbow Bake Teas on the Green raised an appetising £400.
Returning after a pandemic induced hiatus for its third year, the Great Rainbow Bake launched over the Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday 1 May and invites families and friends to celebrate spending precious time together by taking on the challenge of rainbow baking and having fun while supporting Leatherhead based Rainbow Trust. The campaign this year has also been supported by Great British Bake Off’s semi-finalist and presenter Briony William’s who created rainbow bake cookies for her Instagram followers and has encouraged them to also sign up and get involved.
Rainbow Trust supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. When a child has a serious illness, family life is turned upside down and time becomes more precious than ever. Rainbow Trust pairs each family with an expert Family Support Worker who enables them to make the most of time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as is needed. The COVID-19 pandemic piled further unimaginable pressure onto these parents and children, and the charity’s Family Support Workers continue to provide a lifeline to them.
Oonagh Goodman, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Rainbow Trust, said:
“We are delighted that we were able to host Teas on the Green in Brockham. It was a charming event to mark the start of our third Great Rainbow Bake campaign, which encourages families and friends to celebrate spending precious time together by taking on the challenge of rainbow baking.
“We would like to thank all the volunteers and supporters who made this event such a success. The money raised will help Rainbow Trust to fund vital support to families with a seriously ill child.”
