This year, the Big Hour Challenge is all about getting involved in any way you can and making the most of the extra hour you gain when the clocks go back on 25 October, in recognition of the importance an hour of support means to a family who has a child with a serious illness. We know that a lot of you already have your own challenges in mind, but if you’re stuck here’s our top ideas to inspire you.
Indoor teddy bear picnic
The perfect event for your nursery or pre-school, and their teddies! We even have a colour-in teddy bear to keep the little ones entertained. Make it extra special with fairy lights and indoor games and ask guests to make a donation towards the day.
Lunch hour Olympics
Work in a busy office? Introduce some healthy competition between departments and use your lunch hour as a chance to raise some money for a great cause. Think exercise bike relay, pencil javelin and waste paper bin basketball - Simply charge an entrance fee into the Olympics and let the games begin!
Clothes swap shop
Swap Shops are the perfect event to hold at work, in your community or with friends! Not to mention a great opportunity for re-homing unwanted goods and pick up something useful instead. If you have any leftovers you can donate them to our charity shops!
Giving up something
Alcohol, chocolate or even speaking! Give up something and get family and friends to sponsor you. You could even get friends, family or colleagues to nominate what you should give up. Make use of our handy Big Hour Challenge sponsorship form to help get you started!
Sponsored walk
Running isn’t for all of us. A sponsored walk is a great way to grab some fresh air for a good cause, be sure to choose a route around a local park or somewhere you’ll get noticed and see how far you can walk in an hour! Why not go the extra mile and dress up in your wackiest fancy dress?
Night in
Whether you choose to do it Come Dine With Me style and invite friends over to dinner or a movie marathon in your pyjamas – a night in can be the perfect way to get your favourite people together whilst raising money. Dig out some old school games to get the evening off to a flying start!
Bad shirt to work day
A dress down day with a twist! Grab your brightest, tackiest, most outrageous shirt and head to work. Team it with clashing stripy socks or polka dot tie for those wanted to go one step further! Award goes to the worst dressed.
Hold a game
Part of a sports team? Hold a charity match, teams pay to play.
However you choose to spend your Big Hour, Rainbow Trust will be behind you all the way. Visit the Big Hour Challenge page for more details on how you can get involved this October.
