Frequently asked questions about sponsoring a Family Support Worker

Frequently asked questions about sponsoring a Family Support Worker
  • Can all families have a Family Support Worker to support them?

Unfortunately, there are not enough Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers to support everyone who needs one. This is why we are continually fundraising for more support, so we can reach more families who are struggling to cope with caring for a child with a life threatening or terminal illness and need the type of support we offer.

  • What happens if I cannot continue my Rainbow Trust Family Support Worker sponsorship?

If your circumstances change and you can no longer continue as a Family Support Worker Sponsor, please call our Supporter Care Team on 01372 220083 and let us know. And don’t worry, there are other ways to support us. Likewise, you can reinstate your Family Support Worker sponsorship at any time.

  • Who are Family Support Workers?

Family Support Workers are very experienced and specially trained staff who specialise in emotional and practical support for families. Meet some of our Family Support Workers here.

  • What does my sponsorship cover/how is my donation spent?

Your sponsorship will help pay for the support we provide through our Family Support Workers and our help line. We offer support to the whole family 24 hours a day, providing care in the home, sibling support, neo-natal support, end of life care and transport to and from hospital appointments.

  • How are Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers funded?

Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers are funded almost entirely through generous donations from our supporters and we only receive 3% funding from the government. If you’d like to help us continue to provide this vital service – and increase the number of Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers available to help seriously ill children and their families – you can.

  • How much does it cost to fund a Family Support Worker?

The direct cost of a Family Support Worker is about £42,300 a year. Your regular gift will make a real difference to families in the UK today.

  • Can I get in touch with a Family Support Worker?

Our Family Support Workers are incredibly busy supporting families with a life threatened or terminally ill child and for data protection reasons, we cannot give out their contact details. However, please be assured that all our Family Support Workers understand the importance of your generosity and are incredibly grateful for your support.

“Being a Family Support Worker is a challenging role, involving a lot of energy and emotional skills. We provide space and time for families to be together and for children and parents to qualify their experiences.”
